With great freedom comes great responsibility

As a teacher, I should know this. As a student at MBHS with a free period, you should know this too. We are going to explore this concept in regards to your future in this high-tech world in which we live.
1. Do you IM?
2. Do you text message?
3. Do you have a facebook/livejournal/myspace/blog/etc.?

More to come on this topic!

Look here for the law regarding internet responsibility and rights:

I use technology a lot. I use AIM every now and then, this is the only blog i have ever used, and I have a facebook profile. I don't use my text messaging service on my phone very much, but only because I'm terribly slow at typing with the number pad. I really like the fact that you utilize so much technology in your class. I have always thought that teachers weren't up-to-date on technological stuff, but you are the exception and I think that it is great. Back to the original subject, I use more complex tech stuff whenever I record or mix music. I have always tried to stay kind of on top of the "tech scene". I think this is the first serious post I have made, cool.

Why do you love me?
Why do you need me?
Always and forever

We met in a chat room
Where love can fully bloom
Sure the World Wide Web is great
But you, you make me "salvavate"

Yes I love technology
But not as much as you, you see
But I still love technology
Always and forever

Our love is like a flock of doves
Flying up to heav'n above
Always and forever
Always and forever

Yes, your love is truly great
Always and forever

Why do you need me?
Why do you love me?

I dont think I have used IM since 6th or 7th grade. I do use text messages though. I do have a facebook account but it really serves no purpose but to keep in touch with my friends that either dont go to my school or dont live here.

I guess that I am a very technologically educated person. I use IM everyone once in a while, but i generally do not have the time to get on anymore. I use text messaging very often and have used it so much that typing on the number pad is almost natural to me. *Checks phone* Yeah my text count is at 1146...Anyway...I use facebook, but only because I was weak and gave into the powers of peer pressure. It's just something that's there to help you through wasting more time...

I don't use AIM because i think it is kind of stupid and would rather just call somebody. I try not to text message people unless I'm unable to call them at come time. I do have a facebook to keep up with friends from other schools; I also just like to know what people are like.

I do instant message my friends. I do not however partake in the endless game of text messaging. Text messaging is a lame excuse for dialing seven numbers and pressing send. If the person you want to call isn't worth your time to actually speak with them, then it is seemingly pointless to text them. I do realize that some may argue that texting is necessary in class or movies but those forms of contact can wait. As for facebook, yes I do have an account but rarely check it. Text messaging religiously is the epitome of laziness.

P.S. I'll set up my blogger account after this post so please post this one. Thanks Mrs. Caldwell!

I have not used AIM in a long time, probably since like 8th grade. I don't have a myspace account either. However, I do use facebook but it just serves as a way to keep in touch with people without having to memorize a phone number or email address.

I do have IM and I do text message. I only IM and text my friends though. I think its SUPER sketchy when random people IM me...totally freaks me out. I used to be obsessed with Facebook, but now I have a myspace and I like it better. I'm pretty careful with what I put on it, but our discussion in class made me realize that ANYONE can look at it. That's kind of crazy. I think it is a good idea to talk about blogging and some of the dangers because most people do not think about it.

Yes i do text message all the time. I also have facebook to keep in touch with my camp friends and out of town friends. I do not use myspace at all and I only instant message when i have questions about homework. I never do any of this at school though only at home.

Yes, I use AIM occasionally. I text when it is easier than calling. I got a facebook profile a few weeks ago, and I love it. I read the article tonight, and it made sense. I could see how if people dont use technology and the internet with a little bit of common sense/be careful what you write, I think everything would be okay. I think it is an amazing tool and can, obviously, and will keep on doing amazing things.

I pretty much use every technological resource that is available to me. I use AIM, I text message, and I have facebook and myspace accounts. However, I don't spend much time on facebook or myspace at all. I am very glad that this advanced technology is available to our disposal; even more, I am grateful that you are allowing us to use it on projects in class. Technology is very applicable in today's society, whether we realize it or not and I hope that we can continue to utilize it in class.

I use the internet all the time. I've never really used facebook/livejournal/xanga but I still IM some and I've been a part of message boards and such before.

I do not like to im because I think it is a waste of time and if you want to talk to someone for a while then you should call them. I do text message though because it helps to tell someone something quickly without having to call them. I also have a facebook account because, like Walker, it helps me to keep up with people from other schools that I had lost contact with.

I use text messaging all the time. It is a great way to tell/ask someone something if you don't really want to or have time to talk. I have a facebook account but it's pretty stupid. I like to look at people's pictures and use it sometimes to talk to old camp friends, etc.

Yes I IM and text message a ton! but i don't have any of that online journaling stuff. I think the future of the internet is growing and in a couple years the use of books will continue to decrease. I think people should monitor what they put on the web because you never know who is reading your posts or personal thoughts. I think the use of online journaling will continue to grow and we will especially use it in college.

I occasionally IM, but I never get on the internet for the purpose of IM-ing. I also use text massages, but I don't use any facebook or myspace stuff. Everyone says facebook is addicting, so I'm staying away for now. I can wait until college. And I don't have that many out of town friends, so facebook isn't that useful to me at this point.

I think that we should be responsible for everything that we post on a blogging website like this one.

I do not use technology much. i am against facebook because i think it is the dumbest thing for high schoolers to do. it is ok for college students because it is a great way to keep in touch with old high school friends.

Yes I have IM. I know that is like a 7th grader, but I like it. Text messages I don't like, but I use them. I think that they are impersonal, but it is a lot easier to ask a person a quick question with a text message than go through all the formalities of small talk. Facebook, I had and I loved it and was addicted. I decided to delete my account because I would waste so much time on it.

I haven't really used IM in a couple of years, but I liked it a lot in junior high. I do have a facebook account, but I'm not really addicted to it like some people. I also text message a lot, and will probably get in trouble this month for going over.

I use technology more for entertainment than for effeciency. I dont really IM. I only text message with my girlfriend because I dont IM and she prefers the impersonal text rather than voices. I have a facebook but i dont much care about it. Its just kind of there. I dont really think that technology should have gone as far as it has. These days thanks to technology people can completely isolate themselves from society and take care of all their needs with absolute minimum or possibly no human interaction. Not to say I havent considered the possibility of completely isolating myself for weeks at a time, but I still think its really unhealthy. Ive even heard of computer games where you can order pizza straight from the game so that you can have it delivered to you without having to quit playing. Its all kind of sad

I don't really use any online chat things because it is unnecessary now. Facebook and other thigns, I think are just ways for people to meet more people, so it can be good and bad. Hopefully just good though.

I dont use any of the instant messaging stuff on the internet. I do not have a facebook account and this is the first time i have done any type of blogging.
