Research papers... hot or not!

Ok, I know it is a lame title, but how is the process going?

  • What has been your biggest obstacle so far?
  • What are you having trouble finding?

My biggest problem with research papers is just getting started. Once I get all my information you still have to pick three points that you can write a lot about. Once I get started with my paper I am fine, it is just the initial planning and figuring out how you are going to make sure all your points relate back to the thesis etc.

Like Caroline, my biggest obstacle is finding the motivation to put my pen to paper. I have plenty of sources to get started, but I have some kind of mental block preventing me from doing actual work. I feel like Peter from Office Space where I sit around all day and only do about 15 minutes of true, hard work.

I am having a lot of trouble getting started. I feel like I am lost and I do not know where to begin. I am having trouble also trying to figure out what my thesis is going to be, so once i get that down hopefully it will be easier then.

The thing that I am having the most trouble with is picking out the three points. I have information I just can't narrow it down to three good points to argue. Once I finally narrow it down, I think it will go pretty smoothly.

I agree with caroline and austin. It is hard getting started, but I think the outline will help get the ball rolling. I still feel like I don't exactly know where I'm going with my paper eventhough I have my thesis and everything. I'm thinking the outline will fix that though.

My problem with the research paper is im not good at finding information on my topic. Also I am not not motivated to do my research paper on my topic. One other thing is that im too lazy and tired to work outside of the classroom by going to the library.

I will reiterate what most have said are the two core problems with research papers in general: getting started and lacking the motivation. I am in agreement with elliot that library days truly give us the time and the focus to get our paper done. I also think it is so tough to focus this year on the RSP because of the acting, the overloading in other classes, and, of course, senioritis. Extended deadlines on the paper would be greatly appreciated by all. Thanks Mrs C.

I have a hard time writing the first paragraphs. There is always a struggle to write a thesis that is going to cover just three points yet make a 6 page paper. Also the fact that it is second semester isnt really helping much, not that you could have helped that...I'm just saying that its hard to stay focused

The hardest thing to me when doing the research paper process is the actual research. Finding my sources and quotes has been my biggest obstacle.

My biggest problem is trying to find enough critical articles and i think in the future its going to be trying to write six pages because i have never written over four. - BakerB3

I seem to be facing some trouble this year but my biggest problem is just getting started. I think we need more library days. Research papers are not hot.

the biggest prolblem that i have with reseach papers (and everything else)is just getting started. I hate having to look stuff up so much that I wait to the very last minute to get everything done. As long as I keep a constant pace, though, I'm usually fine.

I can't find any information on my topic. None of the library people are any good at finding information for me. I hate having a broad choice of topics.

My main problem is that I cant get started. I am not very motivated...in other words, I just want to graduate and go to college. Haha, but I guess I have to pass all of my classes to graduate. It will get done-it just might not be the best paper ever created.

I decided to do my paper foiling Macbeth and Macduff. Im having no trouble finding examples of the foil in the text, however it seems that no one else has written any material about how Macbeth and Macduff foil. That is really making this research paper very difficult. Its another example of why I hate research papers. Can we have a break and do some easy work for a while?

I am having trouble finding any information about my play. The first topic I had I didnt find anything, but once I made it a little broader, I started to find more information.

You know me Mrs. Caldwell. You know that i dont like complaining about something unless i feel like i have to...but i have a real big problem! While doing the outline for the paper i realized that this would be SO much easier if i had the notes we took while reading the play that YOU took up and YOU never gave back to us!!!! Just thought you wanted to know and in my opinion...THAT IS BUSH LEAGUE!!!
Respectfully,
Kevin

My biggest problem so far has been finding good information. A lot of the information that i find on the internet is not very reliable, but after looking a little bit longer i usually find what i need.

I'm having problems with this research paper. I'm sure that everyone agrees with me... i have NO motivation at all. I just wish that seniors didn't have to do research papers.

Like everything in this class, I am just having trouble getting started. It's a mental block that's telling me that it will be way too hard and I should not even start, which is a very bad idea.

My biggest obstacle so far has been getting reliable information. I have been able to find a pretty good amount of information about my topic, but a lot of it is not very reliable.
