Blood (gross)

Ok, as we start talking more and more about death and blood in Macbeth, I have to get some feedback. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth dwell on the blood (literal and symbolic) of Duncan. Blood has a certain connotation depending on the situation. Answer these somewhat weird inquiries:
  • What are your feelings about blood? Are you freaked out by it, not bothered, or does it depend on the situation? Just call it morbid curiosity.
  • Can you share a situation where someone else's blood was involved-- hospital, accident, animal, etc???

My answers:

  1. I used to freak out- I was a daycare worker. Four-year old kid nosebleed, I had to call for back up! When my dad was in the hospital for a long stay, blood became no big deal as I watched it go through machines for dialysis.
  2. At age two, my son stuck his finger in a rotating fan. I was the calm one and my husband freaked. Needless to say my son's finger nail fell off later, and he has a scar. I never let the hubby forget he was the "drama queen" on that one.

Blood is not that big of a deal to me. When my sister was in the hospital for a long period of time i got use to seeing it daily. She had a drain in her leg that collected the infected blood, so i saw that all the time.

Blood does not bother me. Giving blood has never been a problem. One time Calvin Yeager was mowing our lawn. He was mowing on a hill and I think that he was going up it? Well, needless to say, the lawn mower backed up on his toe and sliced it!! My mom was freakin out because she felt so bad for him, but I thought it was pretty cool. So, blood doesn't really bother me. :) I miss y'all!! I'm comin back tomorrow!!!

I am not a big blood fan. However I do think that it is funny that English people always say bloody. It's like a cuss-word or something over there.

One time I was at my friends house and he was rocking chair. His little sister's hampster ran under the chair as it was rocking and well...you can guess what happened. I was the first person to run over to see it. If that doesn't tell you about what bothers me, I don't know what will

The sight of blood does not bother me at all. As of now, I plan to pursue a career in medicine, and I dont believe I would be able to succeed if blood made me queasy whenever I came incontact with it.

I am comfortable with the sight of blood. My father is a doctor and my childhood was filled with memories of going to his pediatric clinic. You wouldn't know it but I usually watch suspenseful action films. I have never been as disturbed by the sight of blood until this past weekend when I saw the film, Munich. Blood was gushing out of her neck like a hole in a mop bucket full of water. Furthermore, blood and how comfortable I am with or around it really depends on the situation

ooh ooh, english class!!!! I loved all that literature and good stuff. You sound like a good teacher. Yay! I love the questions. Blood doesn't bother me either.

Mmm... blood. I'm not exactly sanguinary, but blood does not bother me too very much. Then too, I intend to become a doctor, plus I'm joining the US Marines, so... yeah.

I have no problem with blood, but it is kinda weird when someone gets a small cut and licks the blood off. I guess the people who do that think it is okay since it is his/her own blood. I have dealt with blood blisters before and they don't gross me out, but they tend to leave some dried blood under the skin that sometimes stays for a while.

Yeah blood doesn't bother me either, i guess the reason i got used to it was my mom. She gets hurt definetly alot by just doing clumsy things. Blood is definetly not a big deal in my family.

I can not stand the sight of blood. I am scared of needles and the sight of taking blood. I have only had to get my blood drawn once and it was awfule. The sight of blood or needles or bloody needles is disturbing in real life and in person. When I see blood or gore on movies that doesn't bother me. As for when I have seen blood in real life other than my own came back in third grade. My friend fell off his bike and the handle bar slit open his eyes with blood gushing everywhere. Imagine Niagra Falls as the blood ran down his cheeks and stained his clothes. That story leaves me nauseous as I think back on that horrific day.

Blood doesn't scare me at all. Their is much scarier things to be worried about than blood. WHen i was 10, i tried to street luge down this massive hill on my street with my old RAD board. I got some intense road rash and i had scarring on both hands and forearms for the next 3 months. That was not fun.

Blood does not really bother me. I guess that is good because I want to be a nurse. I've always been able to watch shows with lots of blood like Greys Anatomy and CSI, and I have never been grossed out by it.

Blood does not really bother me. One time my brother's friend had a glass door slammed on his arms and the glass sliced both of them. I had to go with my mom to drive him to the emergency room. It was gross but when someone is bleeding you have to forget about it and help them!!

Rachaelw5 said...

1. Well, for me, it depends on the situation as to whether or not I'm going to freak out. If there has been an accident and someone/something is bleeding and in pain then I'm going to freak out. However, if I'm getting my finger pricked or something like that then blood doesn't really bother me.
2. Two years ago one of our cats, Socks, came into the garage and was covered in blood. He had ripped open the skin on his stomach. Not just like a little tear, but his entire bottom was open. He apparently got got on one of those spires on fences or something. Surprisingly, I didn't really freak out, but my mom did! We just got him in a box and took him to the vet and he had to get a bunch of stitches. No worries, now he's perfectly fine!

Blood is okay with me. My most recent memory of blood is when i cut my had real bad in football, it bled all over my uniform and then later after i had just gotten the stitches put in my palm, my entire arm was covered in blood. it was cool.

charlotteg3 said...

I do not like blood very much, whenever I look at it I feel queasy. Last year when I had a car wreck I cut up my arm, and there was blood everywhere. Ever since then the sight of blood makes me feel sick.

mmoorer6 said...

Yeah blood is not a nig deal. I've never been quesy and am actually looking foward to people getting killed in the story, might wake me up during the reading. Max, have we found out about this Amanda from Tennessee?

I really am not a big fan of blood. I can't even go near a blood-drive because (even though i know its for a really good cause) the whole idea of how they do it kinda freaks me out. When I was a lifeguard last summer I had to deal with blood and cuts all the time, though, so I guess it's not so terrible anymore.

I don’t really care about blood one way or another. I don’t want to be around it but if I am in a situation that involves blood I can usually handle it. When I was about 8 I wanted to build a roller coaster in my house (I really loved roller coasters) and so I got a laundry basket and decided to ride it down the stairs, well the banister had those spindles (the things that hold banisters up) and well to make a long story short I sliced the whole left side of my head on the spindles. I ran up to my room crying ( I didn’t know that it was bleeding) and when my mom came up and saw the blood she passed out (dad wasn’t home) and then my sister came upstairs and saw me. First she threw up and then she called my neighbors to come help, and everything turned out okay-- but it was REALLY bloody.

Blood does not really bother me at all unless it is on tv where they show surgery or just nasty fat tissue which really grosses me out but other than that I do not really mind being around it. When I was like five, I went golfing with my dad and brother. It just so happens that I was standing behind my brother when he was swinging and I got hit in the head. My head was gushing blood, but now I am ok.

Oh my GOSH! Well, I used to not be bothered by blood until I gave blood for our school's blood drive. I ended up giving waaaay to much blood because the nurse apparently punctured my vein. It was SICK! I mean, just seeing my arm covered in my own blood grossed me out way to much. But the ironic thing is- I want to be an OB-GYN, so I dont know-we'll see how that works out.

VirginiaB5 said...

Blood does not really gross me out that much. I have never been bothered by it. I am glad that I am not like some people i know who pass out when you start to talk about it.

Blood doesn't really gross me out either. One time I was riding down a hill on a razor and some one's dog ran out in front of me and I couldn't stop so I hit him, and I flipped over the razor and like skidded down the hill... yah it sucked- anyways, I was bleeding like every where, and I totally could take it. And I can like give myself I.V.'s and stuff and like watch the blood its not that bad, its natural... haha! but yah... that's my opinion

What's up B-diddy? Blood has never really freaked me out too much. My bloodiest experience was one time I accidently got hit in the head by someone's axe while we were choppin wood about. Luckily for me he had just begun his swing and had not gotten too much momentum before it hit me. I remember I reached up to rub my head because it hurt really bad and i felt it all wet and sticky and looked at my hand and it was already covered in blood and a good sized puddle was forming under me. As much as it hurt I thought it was kinda cool and decided to just let the blood drip down all over my face while I went to get the councillor to get him to bandage me up. I looked like I had just come out of a battle. It was pretty cool, even though my skull still is a bit disfigured from the accident. If you like bloody movies and the such see House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects. They are amazingly gory.

I guess it depends on the situation. Like a couple weeks before school started, my head found it's way to a metal pole (although it could have actually been a bolt bolted to the pole, given the shape of the scar). Don't ask. Anyway, I was dizzy for a second, but then I started feeling a sort of wet dripping feeling coming from my head. I put my hand on my head, and alas, it was a bloody mess. It was kind of freaky becuase I didn't know how serious it was (although I ended up getting 10 stitches). I do have to agree with my friend Ben though, it does feel kinda cool because you feel sort of bad-A like you were jsut in a battle or something. It's a weird feeling. But yeah, blood is inevitable. I don't really know what I just meant by that, but hey, I still have 3 minutes left before I could have lost 5 points. yay.

Of course the guys are going to respond to this question in some kind of ego response "no blood doenst bother me at all because IM A MAN!!!!!" Please, i bet you if you brought a clip of DR.90210 (style network plastic surgery show) and showed it in your class all of the guys would flinch inside at least a little bit!!!

I do not think that blood is a big deal. One time in the junior high, Charlie Higgenbotham hit his head on a wall and it cut his head open. We went to the bathroom and I was cleaning him up and blood was all over me. It didn't bother me at all because he was my friend, and I was worried about him.

One time at band camp, I was changing a light bulb and it broke and went into my hand. Blood went everywhere and I had to get surgery to get the glass out of my hand. I witnessed all this blood, and I never once was bothered by it.

Seeing blood doesn't usually bother me especially if it isnt too much blood. I have donated blood before and never had a problem with that. Sometimes seeing blood bothers me. but it just really depends on the situation.

Well here is one for you Katie. Blood itself doesn't really bother me but surgery sure as he....ck does. I hated disecting the animals in bio in 9th grade, which is why I have no desire whatsoever to be a doctor.

Blood doesn't bother me. One time I cut my finger on scissors and I remember sitting on the steps and telling my mom I didn't want to die.

I'm really not scared of blood and it doesn't bother me to get shots, but the idea of giving blood kind of freaks me out. I think it would just feel akward to have all of that blood drained, but i do believe that we should all do it. I am in no way against giving blood. I just am kind of freaked out by it.

blood dont bother me. it never did. i dont mind gettin shots.

Blood doesnt really bother me. Sometimes I think people over react when they see blood because they think they are really hurt just because they see it. This might be just me because i want to pursue a carreer in medicine.

Sounds like almost everybody isn't bothered by blood. I'm not either. However, there is a little shock at first sight of a lot of blood. On a beach retreat, one of the girls started have random nose bleeds (not the kind that drool out of the nose, this was like a faucet) and I was a little shocked at first, but I got over it and shoved both of my fingers up her nostrils... then she stopped bleeding... then I took my fingers out... and she started bleeding again... so I got some paper towels because there was blood everywhere.

Blood is not that big of a problem for me. I've had my share of many heavy boody incidents like having a 45 pound dumbell slammed on my head and having my head slammed into a mat during wrestling and having my nose bleed for literally 30 minutes, but those things never bothered me. What does bother me is writing on blogs for Engish!!!

johnf5 said...

I didn't ever think that blood bothered me. I was cool with it in movies and whenever real life surgery shows came on. But since I worked at a vet and was directly exposed to it, I am not as comfortable with it.

maggieb6 said...

I used to think i wasn't very bothered by blood, but a few months ago, my friend's dog got his tail bitten off. Since I was at his house at the time, I got to help hold the dog down while they tried to take him to the vet. The dog kept wagging his tail because he was anxious, and blood just got every where. I nearly got sick to my stomach, and I realized that I could not handle that.

By the way, the dog's fine now. His tail got stitched up, and it's all better now.

AndersonS6 said...

Still with the negativity huh. Lol gee this post took me a whole ten, no now 15 seconds.

maxg3 said...

Hey, katiem1, it's not the blood itself that determines if we are or are not bothered by it. It's the way the blood it depicted or portrayed that determines the grossity of it. Like what me or Ben said. That type of way that we described it doesn't bother me. But yes, surgeries or things of that sort are bit more bothersome. I do not know why, that's just how it is.

christ1 said...

About blood, it really isn't that big of a deal to me. I've been in enough basketball games where I am left with scrapes, cuts, and bloody noses that the sight of it doesn't bother me at all.

I usually don't mind the sight of blood. Most of us are numb to it because of TV and Movies. I hate bleeding though....

I don't mind blood at all. If something is bleeding then I can handle it fine. But I cannot stand getting blood taken. I don't know if it's the needle or what, but I do not do it.

Blood does not affect me at all. I was in the emergency room with someone that had there head split open and i watched the doctors put stiches in. Also my brother was in the hospital and he had a machine that circulated blood through him.
