In the movie Shakespeare In Love, Queen Elizabeth poses the question, "Can a play show the very truth and nature of love?" What do you think? Have you ever seen a movie or play that shaped your opinion about what love should be? There is a saying that "Art imitates life." Do you agree or think that the opposite is true, "Life imitates art"?

I think its possible for a play to do that. Never have a seen a play that does that, but i do believe it can be done. Yes, i do believe that the opposite is true!
I think it could be possible for me, but I think it varies from viewer to viewer. Everyone has different opinions and standards of love. I believe that "Art imitates life,"that is the only way it could work, because without life you wouldn'thave art.....or am I not making sense?
In case my other post was not long enough. Personally I think the story of Romeo and Juliet is glamorized and not very realistic, at least not for this day and age. However, I do think some of Shakespeare's other work is better. I don't love Shakespeare's writing, but I can appreciate that he was very good at what he did.
Now days, I feel that love can be expressed a lot better than it was in Shakespeare's time. Honestly, I have no explanation for this. Maybe people have had more practice? haha However, I agree with Katherine in that plays/movies do not do love justice; it must be felt.
I think that when you are watching a love scene in a movie or t.v. show you get that feeling of "giddiness" that one may feel when they are in love. So to answer the question...yes i feel that Shakespeare could protray true love through his plays. But i agree with Abby when she says that movies don't do true love justice.
In my opinion, i think it is near impossible to portray love in acting. While Romeo and Juliet is a truly great story and always seems to really influence people I feel it is not very realistic. Real love is hard to find, there's no way actors and actresses could truly express it. I think, that what grabs us is the portrayance of lust...hardly love thought.
Every girl can relate to this topic. We have all seen movies that exhibit true love. The movies that we watch on a friday night when we dont feel like socializing unless you count the bag of microwave popcorn (movie theatre butter) that you bought with your rental from Blockbuster. We either rent a chick flick that ends with the girl getting the guy and ending in marriage that makes us dream even more of our own wedding. Or one close to Shakespeare in Love that make us cry our heart out over never wanting to marry a Lord Wessex kind of guy.Both of these types exhibit two both real and different types of love in life.
