Reflection

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”
Buddha

“The past is behind, learn from it.The future is ahead, prepare for it.The present is here, live it.”
Thomas S. Monson

What part does reflection play in personal growth? Does it play a part or is it just dwelling on the past?

Mistakes are a part of personal growth you learn from them. Life is too short not to live in the moment.

The past is a great learning tool for growth in the future because you can look back on mistakes and see how to handle similar situations in the future.

Reflection plays a profound role in personal growth. Of course, one does not need to dwell on the past, but its the past that guided his or her future. We must never forget past experiences. Whether good or bad, each left some impact on our lives. Learn from them.

Reflection, I believe, is necessary for personal growth. It is only natural to make mistakes, but unless we reflect on what went wrong and how we reacted to it, we will never be able to move foward. I think it's helpful to reflect on the good memories though, as well as the mistakes. However, if someone spends their entire life simply looking behind them, they will never have the time to live the life that they have been blessed with right now.

I think we should never ever forget our past. We should always learn from what we did wrong in our past to help us in our future. I think life is way too short to dwell on the past and plan for the future. We should live each day as a one day.

Reflection helps keep us in line. Sometimes people forget about their past or other peoples' pasts and make mistakes that could be prevented. If you forget your past, then you might repeat mistakes you made or forget the goals you have set for yourself. Relfection is an important part of moving on and growing up.

Mittens is right- The past is a good tool in learning from your mistakes. Whatever you did wrong, you have a chance to look back on that mistake and get another chance to handle the situation better next time.

I think it is important to reflect on the past because it help us prepare for the future. Failing to remember the good and bad times of your life will teach you nothing about what to expect and strive for in the future. However, dwelling in the past is a way for your life to pass you by.

The past is something to grow on and learn from in order not to make mistakes in the future. On the other hand you cant dwell on the past but you have to look to the future.

My dad asked me the other day that if I could go back in time and undo all of my mistakes, would I do it. I told him no, because all of my mistakes, awkward situations, bad experiences, and times where all hope was lost formed and shaped me to be the individual that I am today. Plus, if everything had gone right in my life, I would be a spoiled rotten kid that is used to getting everything he wants. I don't want that; humans need to learn that everything cant go their way.

We can also learn from our mistakes in the past. The best way students can do well in school, is if we miss a problem on homework or missed something in class, then we learn from it for the test or exam.

One bad example of how to dwell on the past is Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite. He is so upset with events in the past, that it effects is life in the present, and probably onto the future.

Buddha tells us not to dream, but Monson tells us to prepare. It's kind of like insurance. You prepare for the future but you don't dream that you will get in a car wreck or have a house fire. We must be prepared for the future, but as we don't dwell on the past we shouldn't dwell on the future either.

Reflection is a big part of our lives. Reflecting back on the past can help us grow and learn from our mistakes.

Reflection is important because it helps us see where we have come from and help us guide ourselves to where we want to go.

I like Thomas Monson's quote. I think reflection plays a huge role in personal growth. It is very important to learn from the past and be prepared for the future. However, if you don't live in the present, your life will be pointless.

I do believe that reflecting back on your life helps with your personal growth. Taking a step back and thinking about yourself helps you understand sometimes what you should do different. You can look back on your istakes and see how you would have changed them.

I really believe that one does need to look back on particular events in the past to learn and not make mistakes at the present time or the future!

I like the first quote a lot. I believe in it but i also think we should not only not dwell on the past but we should learn from it too. I think if we dream of the future we will only be let down. The other quote is okay too. I like the last part of it when it says to live your life. I also really like Jonathan's post.

I feel like there is a difference between reflection and dwelling. You should never dwell on the past because to me I feel like you will never move past it or forward, but reflection is something that we all should do because it will help us learn to do better in the future. You can always learn from the past and then you will not make the same mistakes over again.

Well you have to reflect on events positive or negative to grow. That being said, once you have reflected and "grown", there is absolutely no reason to continue to dwell on the events, and it is better to move on.

In case other one did not send.

Reflection is necessary for growth. That being said continuing to dwell on events, positive or negative, starts to affect people negatively. Reflect and then move on.

I think reflection is definitely necessary for personal growth, but too much of it can definitly turn into a bad thing. While I do try to learn from my mistakes, I still always try to live in the moment and not dwell on my mistakes too much.

I think that the only way that a person can learn is from mistakes made in the past. Someone can tell you not to do something but I think to really learn a lesson you must learn it for yourself by making mistakes.

I think that personal reflection is very important; haven't we always been told that you learn from your mistakes? Im not saying that you should dwell on the past, becasue you should not. My mom has always taught me to learn from the past and then move on, it does no good to sit around and wonder what would have been if you had done this or that differntly. All you can do is learn from your mistakes and make better choices next time.

I defenitley think that we can all learn from our past expierences both good and bad, but you should not "dwell" in the past. What is done is done, move on and learn from it.

I think that reflection is very important. Sure there is a point when it turns to "dwelling in the past," but reflecting on the past is a great way to learn about yourself and grow.

I think that you can learn a lot from the past especially mistakes. You should learn from the experience and take that lesson with you. But it is important not to dwell constantly on the past and live your life in the present.

GriffB5 said...

The past is only good to recognize the mistakes that have been made. You can see how those actions played out and what the consequences were.

I think that for one to truly grow and adapt to changing times one must reflect back on their actions. I think that reflection does play a part in personal growth and that it enables people to learn from their mistakes and to grow individually. Reflection is definetly crucial to personal growth, because failing to look back on the past will cause someone to do the same thing over again.

You have to reflect on what happens in your life to learn from your accomplishments and your mistakes.
