Then and now...
How does our society reflect some of the themes, situations, or characters in your novel? Be specific and explain your thoughts. Thanks to those of you that commented on "Dystopian Societies" that led to this post.

In "Brave New World" I see a lot of our society in there. Thankfully it is very exaggerated and is not possible at this day and time, but I do see freakish similarities. In the novel they do not know what old is. They have found ways to preserve their bodies for 60 years before the body just shuts down. Their desire for youth and attractiveness is obviously like out society today. It kind of makes me look a little forward to getting older, just to know that we are still humans, that we are natural and healthy.
I agree with Ashton, modern day U.S.A. shares some similar qualities to that in 1984, though not to the extent of complete totalitarianism in the least. NYC recently passed a law saying the NYPD is responsible for surveillance for basically every inch of the city, in order to avoid crime. This, along with the Patriot Act, which enables the NSA to wiretap, use only one search warrant for several causes of suspected criminals etc. This is similar in a sense to the radical political machine in 1984.
