Blogging so far

Thursday I will be speaking to teachers from fourty schools across the state. Many of them will want to know why I use blogs and how they help in my classroom. Take a moment to think of the previous posts and the comments generated. Please answer these questions based on your opinon (not what you think I want to hear)
  1. What do you think are the biggest advantages of having a class blog?
  2. What has been your favorite post?
  3. What would you like to see as an added dimension to the blogging experience?
  4. If you had to defend using the blog as an educational experience to our school board, what would you say are the benefits for our class?

1. Biggest advantage: using new technology skills and earning easy points by giving our opinions.
2. Favorite post: The post asking our favorite lyrics to a song
3. I would like more opinionated questions put on the blog.
4. It connects the classes outside of class and takes learning to a new technilogical level.

I think the biggest advantages of having a blog are the easy communication aspect, and it gives everyone a chance to speak their views and opinions without using up a terrible amount of class time. My favorite post was probably the one about Autism and the mother's website we visited. I think a neat added demension might include actually discussing some of the posts and responses in class. While defending the blog I would explain what great doors it opens, because it is on the internet, there is so much information we can be quickly linked to. This info can expand our knowledge more than any text book.

The blog has been an interesting aspect of our English class this year. It is an asset in that we can look on it to see what will be coming up in the weeks ahead. It is also a good way to earn participation points. I think it probably helps with learning how to freely respond also. Being up to date on some currrent events is another advnatage.

The biggest advantage of having a class blog is so we will know how to use one when we are older. My favorite post so far is explaining why we love the south and the one about our favorite road trip. An added dimension for making the whole blogging experience better would to have it shared with another class from another state all the time. If I had to defend the blog to the school board I would tell them that it shows us how the use the internet in many ways. It allows us to become more familiar with the internet so we do not have to ask our kids how to do it when we are old.

I think the blog allows us to see what other students think about certain topics. I think my favorite post is when we got to describe what the south is like. I think it is an important part of our class experience because it allows to get on the computer and learn more about technology.

I think that the blog is helpful. It gets everyone involved. It also lets the teacher know what the students are thinking. I think that the blog is very beneficial and interesting.

The biggest advantages of having a blog in our class is the ability to hear everyone's opinons and thoughts. It really connects our classes togther. I do not really have a personal favorite post ,but I like post that are very opiniated. I think it is neat to hear what others think and tell how you feel. The benefits of having a blog in a classroom is you get to use the computers, say what you want to say, discuss class activities, and see the assigments for homework. I think blogs are pretty cool.

I think that the blog is alright. It is interesting to see what your classmates have said about certain issues. However, the people who blog first often have their blogs copied in different words. My favorite blog topic so was when the students from other schools blogged on our blogger. It is also easy points if you remember to blog twice each week.

The blog is a great way for students to express their opinions about stuff going on in the world, or what we think of assignments. My favorite blogs are those that ask us what we think about a certain something. I think the blog is easy points and keeps us using the computers. In the future maybe you can not make it a weekly assignment to comment on the blog, but still encourage us to do so.

wesn7 said...

I think the blog is great because it gives students a chance to comment up coming events. The only thing I dont like about it, is the way we HAVE to write twice every week. I wish we got to do this voluntarily. It shouldn't have to be something your forced to do because everyone already enjoys leaving their own comments on it.

The biggest advantage of having a class blog is that it allows us to talk about things that we need to that we do not have enough time in class to do. My favorite post was the one about our narrative essay and what we thought about it. I would like to be able to send a message strait to the blog without any filtering. No interference from someone that i know. I would like to say to the board that we need this because i really like to do it.

The blog is beneficial in that it allows us to discuss issues with each other in a way that allows for time to think and conjure up an opinion where one lies dormant in our developing minds. I've enjoyed all of the posts so far. However, the blog needs to go beyond just being a place where we discuss topics that we aren't going to bring up in class specifically. We have to involve every topic we discuss on the blog in the classroom discussion; the blog allows for students to form a defendable position, so that we can have a reasonable and productive discussion in the class. We haven't really involved much of what's on the blog with what we are learning, it has largely been the other way around.

I really enjoy using our blog to communicate with each other outside of the classroom. This way opinions from every class can be shared and documented. My favorite post so far was the one where we had to post our favorite song lyrics and explain what they meant to us. I think it would be cool to have an event calendar about school/local concerts/plays etc. that would help broaden our minds through literature. I would tell the school board that blogging is the best tool for any class to communicate. Also, since teens spend most of their time on the internet, why not use something that is used daily by teens. BLOGGING RULES

This is what I think about the blog:
1. I think the biggest advantage is finding out if anything has been rescheduled (ie the vocab test) and hearing what other students opinions are.
2. My faverite post was the one about your faverite vacation. That was interesting
3. I like the blogs, but some of the blogs could be easier to write about.
4. I think the blog is a very educational way to tell others what you think about issues. It also helps you get to know your classmates.

I think one of the biggest advantages of the blog is that you get to interact with all of the classes not just yours. My favorite post was when we posted the lyrics to our favorite song. I think a new dimension we need to add is maybe where students can post topics.

GuerryF1 said...

One of the biggest advantages I think using the blog adds to our class is the feedback. We can hear what people think about something we learned about in class, after they have had some time to process things. My favorite posts was the one that people posted song lyrics. I enjoyed reading all of those. It would be cool if more people than just our class posted on the blog, to get more imput into it. The blog benefits our class by giveing conversation starters. I think it is a very important tool to the learning process.

The teacher can convey to students a concept or suggestion through a manner in which they are familiar with and more inclined to pay attention. Also, students can freely express, with restrictions, how they feel and not get called out on it by other classmates at that immediate time.

My favorite post has been the hero post because it made me think a lot about WHY that specific person was my hero.

Maybe, if possible, you could create poles of some sort to find out opinions and preferences on different things such as tests, books, movies, papers etc.

Using the blog is an educational way to interact with both technology and various sources of internet media which open us to more information. There are site restrictions on which sites we may go to, so explicit content being sought out will not be feasible so it will not be a problem. Although we are depending more heavily on technology and the internet for things we previously did by hand, our society is heading into a technological revolution if not already having started it. We may either adapt or die. I prefer to adapt.

The biggest advantage of having a class blog is that it enables us to basically have class discussions outside of class. My favorite post was probably the one where we had to post some lyrics to a song and say what voice we heard from the song. One thing I would like to see is some students being able to contribute posts to the blog. If I had to defend the blog to the school board, I would say that the benefits of it are that it gives people a place to voice their opinions.

Class blogs give students the advantage of being able to see what other students think about certain topics and discuss them with one another. My favorite post was the one about the song lyrics. I think it would be a good idea to have more of a variety of things to blog about each week. Blogs benefit our class because we can communicate with our classmates about different topics.

The biggest advantages of having a class blog is that it allows us to use new technology skills and introduces us to the concept of blogging. My favorite post was the the favorite lyrics to a song because music is a big part of my life. I listen to music everyday and I was glad that we were able to express lyrics that we feel are neat. I would like to see more post on various beliefs such as abortion, politics, and other topics that are important to us. If I had to defend using the blog I would say that it allows us to learn about new technology and makes the class more important. It also teaches us time management because we have to blog twice a week and it can not be on one day.

GenaC3 said...

1.Biggest advantage: learning more about technology

2.Favorite post: posting our favorite song lyrics and significance

3.I would like more controversial questions to be put on the blog, so people will have to think in depth about what they believe

4.We learn more about technology, and it is cool to know others' thoughts on a certain topic. It helps us to be creative and opinionated.

Mrs. C - great looking blog! Thanks for your inspiring workshop today. I have already set up my pageflakes page! I will share your blog with my photography students. We have a daily photography blog, please check it out when you have a moment.

The biggest advantage of having a blog is become more familiar with technology. It is easy to communicate through the blog and see other's opinions. The blog gives us access to a lot more information since it is on the internet. It has been a different, but good way to express our opinions. The blogs are important because they keep us addressing current issues.

GrantM3 said...

The biggest advantage so far has been the easy points I have accumulated from blogging. My favorite post so far has been the personal archetypes. I would like to have more blogs that are opinionated more. The blog is able to connect the entire class, outside of just being in the room.

davids3 said...

The biggest advantage in blogging is that every student is able to express their particular opinion on issues and view others peoples opinions as well. My favorite post this year was the one about the travel memory. It is always good to think back upon your travels around the world. I would like to see more opinionative questions, because they can be more controversial, and that is fun! The blogs connect students to people outside of jsut the Mtn. Brook area and allows us to express ourselves.

The biggest advantage of having a class blog is that there is a place that everyone in all of your classes can post opinions on topics. I dont have a favorite post. Yes I would like to see an additional dimension to the blogging experience. I would say the benefits of using a blog is that it is something that you dont have to do in class and it is a new way to use technology for learning

JodiS24 said...

I really do enjoy the blogging that is provided in this class. It is definitely a new experience and different from any other class that I have. I don't really know enough about blogging to know what other elements you could add to our blogging experience. For now, however, I really do like posting and seeing what my other classmates are posting. I liked the blog about living in the South and one of the blogs about Curious Incident. Blogging definitely benefits our class because I believe that students respond and learn a lot from the use of technology.

I think the biggest advantage of having a class blog is that it is updated to where, even if I don't have english homework, I am still keeping up with it somehow. My favorite post has been the dreams, or personal questions. Mabye finding different websites that could be added for other students to benefit from would be interesting to add. I learned of a cool website that actually is like a google that has everything computer related that finds good prices on them. Having it being a class outside of school without a bunch of homework is what I would tell the school board.

AllenK5 said...

The blog itself is cash money but I didn't remember to do it the first week, and it's kind of hard to remember to do it twice in a week. My favorite post definitely is my favorite parts of the south. I really felt like I had a money post on that. I don't really care what kind of questions are on here because I trust Mrs. Caldwell. Yay. I'd say that it can be helpful in telling different information and stuff.

I think the biggest advantage of using the blog would be the opportunity to voice our oppinions throgh the computer. My favorite post was the one asking about our favorite song. I would less general questions on the blog. I believe this lets us use technology in a different way and allows us to voice our oppinions.

chriso5 said...

I think blogging has lots of advantages. I liked when you asked us what we thought of certain assignments. For example, when you asked us what we thought of that podcast thing for vocabulary words. It gives us a chance to interact with the teacher and share our ideas about class.

reidp5 said...

The biggest advantage is learning how to use the technology in an academic way. My favorite blog that we have done is the one about the time we took a trip. I would to do more blogs about like trips and events that i have done with my friends. Also by using the blogs it helps see what other people are saying. Also bloging is fun and easy points.

MeredithA3 said...

I think that the biggest advantage of having a class blog is that it gets everyone taking the class involved. It is also interesting to read what other people say about a particular subject. My favority post was probably the hero one. It was really interesting to read about who people thought their heros were. I think it would be kind of neat to have the students write promps for the posts and Mrs. C picks the ones she likes the best for everyone to answer on the blog. The benefits of using the blog is that it helps us explore many topics in a new way that is more interesting to teenagers.

MatthewH7 said...

The best part of the blog is that you get to say stuff. I dont like losing points because i really remember to do it very much. I think we should get bonus points for doing it and that we should not have to do it so much. I dont see myself blogging much when i am older so i dont know. It is also tough to write five sentences. Oh and by the way i dont really like the movie Legend, i think the next blog should be about wether or not we liked the movie.

The biggest advantage is we learn how to use computers better. my favorit post was the one asking why we like living in the south. i would like to see more questions about about issues in the world. i think the blog is good because it helps us to learn more about computers, and it is a good way to work on writing.

The biggest advantage of blogging is being able to see other people's opinions. My favorite post has been the one about the South and why it is so awesome. I would like for the blogs to count on Saturday too, and for them to start over on Sunday. Blogging teaches us how to be responsible on the internet.

I think the biggest advantages of having a class blog is that it allows us to use new technology skills. I dont know what my favorite post was, maybe the lyrics one. I dont really have any complaints about the blog, i think everything on it is pretty good. If I had to defend using the blog I would say that it allows us to learn about new technology and makes the class more important. It also teaches us time management because we have to blog twice a week and it can not be on one day.

CaseyF5 said...

The biggest advantage to using the blog is learning how to use new technology. My favorite post was the song lyrics one. I think you should not have to post twice a week. I think you should be able to post when you want to, which could be more than twice anyway. I would say the benefits are being able to express your views and see other peoples views in a safe way.

HunterP3 said...

1. Like Eleanor said, we're getting to experiment with new technology and earn points for it, but also it is interesting to be able to see classmates' opinions on things.
2. Song lyrics posts
3. Put up some posts that aren't going to all have the same answer i guess
4. It's a great forum for asking questions about things going on in class, and it's nice to see what other people are thinking that normally you might not be able to talk to.

FrankB3 said...

Are you going to use our responses as a part of your lecture? Are you using us to do your work for your lecture? Anyways, I do not think I have had a favorite post yet. I like earning participation points through blogging. A music clip to go along with each post would be pretty cool. Do you really read over our comments. The blog forces students to use computer skill and comment on whatever the teacher wants. Its a good creative outlet. Everyone can voice their own opinion.

These are really helpful comments. I am going to print them out and use them as a guide for improving the blog next nine weeks. I will be utilizing your knowledge and ideas much more next nine weeks.
Thanks
