Living in Excess

As we all know this week is dedicated to being drug free. The bombardment
of red ribbons when you enter school reminds us everyday that we do not need
to use them. Our school listened to a speaker on Monday who informed the
school that doing drugs the first time is a good experience. However over
an extended period of time they can ruin your life. This is also true of
other things, it goes back to the saying too much of a good thing.
Examples of this can be found all around us. When have you seen a situation
when living in excess has had a negative affect?

Too much of anything is a bad thing has been a saying that has been around forever. Although typically people think of horrible things such as drugs and alcohol, but there are more simple things that having too much of it can be bad. Sweets for example. If you have a small portion of sweets they are perfect, leaving you with a delicious taste in your mouth. But if you have too many sweets you will be left feeling sick and miserable.

One example about living in excess is eating too much. Studies say theres a lot more fat people now than in the past so people need to stop eating so much and start exercising more. This obesity problem is an example of one negative effect of living in excess.

I have had a few experiences where living in excess had a negative impact on me. One weekend, i went to a huge concert and two parties. The next monday at school, i felt terrible because i had gotten no sleep, and was just overall physically exhausted. As the week went on, i felt worse and worse, but i finally got to sleep in on the weekend.

Too much of a good thing goes along with eating. We, as humans need to eat, but eating too much can cause many problems. Those problems could be weight, heart, or cholestoral problems. Also it feels good to eat a lot of food all at once, but then after you wont feel so well.

All things must be taken in moderation, without exception. To offer an example that is prevalent in my own life: chewing gum. I have an insatiable addiction for it, although the utility I can get from chewing diminishes with each additional stick. To curb my tendencies, I prefer not to buy gum whatsoever. Instead, I beg and barter from others.

I believe that self-denial is the greatest sweetner of pleasure.

Living in excess occurs in all of us. We watch too much television. It's good to watch televison but too much is bad. It is good to eat sweets and candy, but too much is bad for your health. It is also good to study for school and do your work, but when you are studying too much and spending all your time on it it is bad. This happens to adults all the time in the workforce. Doctors and lawyers become obsessed with their jobs and working and it effects there lives at home and having a good balance in each of their personal lives.

People using too much of anything often has a negative result. For example, some people eat a lot and at the moment they feel satisfied but they keep doing that every time they eat and they become fat. Also, people do the same thing with technology like TV or computers. They use these devices and at the time are entertained but then the next day when they have not done their work they are in trouble.

Moderation is necessary to live a healthy life. Too much of anything can turn into a bad thing. Eating, for example, is very satisfying once you start. The problem is that people have no limits on what they eat. This has caused obesity as well as many heart problems.

Workaholics. Sometimes over working or driving one's self to a destructive point of production can be dangerous. Often times families, marriages, and close relationships are torn apart because of this. Eventually you begin to lose your self as a whole and as an individual. You become what you do and you reflect that in what you don't have because of it.

A excess amount of food can be a bad thing. Just like drugs, the first time you experience a really good food it can be good, but over time if you continue to indulge, it can lead to obesity. Obesity harms your health, and can even kill you. It's weird, too little food can kill you, but too much food can also kill you.

America is becoming more overweight as we speak. Many people enjoy the occasional t.v. show or movie, but it's gotten to the point where people don't excercise much anymore. People have become too fond of sitting around a t.v. and eating or just sitting. Having too much "lazy time" has a negative affect on a lot of people and America as a whole.

The really obvious answer to this would be that people overeat (as already seen from the answers above). Something that a lot of people don't know is that an excess of exercise can also have a negative affect. If someone overworks there body in the future of their life there body isn't going to be as capable. A lot of times when people get hurt/injured in a sport they ask a doctor when is the earliest they can continue training/exercising/playing. (this is livinging in excess) People should be asking when is the safest/they should start back up, or if they should at all. Living in excess of too much sports or exercising can also have a negative effect of eliminating important things in life. People should exercise and play sports to be healthy, but when you start to forgot about school, family, and friends what is the reason of living a healthy life?

Living in excess has had a negative affect on many famous players in sports. Examples of like Mike Tyson and Darrel Dawkins show how the life of luxury and riches can destroy you. Darrel had millions of dollars that he blew away on women and drugs. Now he is an assistant high school basketball coach not by choice. Mike Tyson also lost him mind after he gained his money. He went crazy and later went to jail. He is now fighting women to support himself making a mockery of what skills he once had.

There are many things in which too much of it can be a bad thing. Of course, the first thing that came to mind was food, or sweets and eating too much of it. Yet, I believe everyone else has touched on that. But besides that, there is such a thing as being a workaholic. Focusing too much on things like work or food or television, or computers. But there are also times when people begin to obsess over looks and it can become unhealthy. People can start to lose weight, or exercise or buy more expensive clothes and any of these can seem to be a good thing, but if/when it gets excessive, none of them are a good thing.
