Worst thesis ever...

I would like you to submit the worst possible thesis for your paper topic. What makes a terrible thesis? How do you know the difference in a workable focus/thesis for your paper and a statement? Impress me with your skills of pointless thesis writing.

Ten Things I Hate about You is a good movie. This is how it relates to Shakespeare:

In my paper that I am writing right now, I will show you exactly three ways in which (and when I say "in which", I mean "how") a certain theme, illusion versus reality, is used throughout a play that I read recently and enjoy a little bit in a cosmic way while sitting in my desk in my room, The Taming of the Shrew, which was written by William Shakespeare when he lived in England and wrote plays about stuff and things.

Shakespeare's play Romeo & Juliet was actually about the socio-economic policies of Breschnev, Kruschev, and Walker Texas Ranger.

I think that there are three ways that shakespeare symbolizes with water. As you read my paper, you'll see that I talk about the ways he uses water to show jealousy, innocence, and lust.

Here is three reasons why I thinks that Shylock is a victim instead of a villian in William H. Shakespeare's excellent, fantastic, incredible play The Mercant of Venice. (Notice the horrific grammar mistakes)

In this Paper I'm going to talk about how Shakespeare writes about a bunch of stuff in his plays that makes no sence whatsoever, but we are forced to write and read about anyway.

My paper shows what Hamelt does for the characters and their moral integrity in the play Hamlet and also talks about the impact of Hamlet on people.

In this paper I will show you how, when, and why Shakespeare wrote Macebth. The things that constitute a terrible thesis statement include: a lack of focus, generality, no bias towards one side or the other, and no definitive purpose for writing the paper in the first plce. A statement is something that is accepted as true, a thesis is something that must be proven within your paper.

This dead guy named Shmakespeare wrote something names Taming of the Brew and it was a play and it has realtionships in it.

Romeo and Juliet deserve to die because they are young, stupid, and disrespectful.

I can prove to you through Shakespeare's play that usually there is death and love. The thesis is usually bad if it lacks focus, clarity and it is unorganized. Because if you have a very general thesis the paper will be general and not a specific fact like a research paper should be.

The Taming of the Shrew is a very interesting play. Marriage is a theme of the play and so are gender roles. Good right? Haha...A good thesis outlines your paper and a bad one does not. If you have a good thesis, then more than likely, you will have a good paper. If you have a horrible thesis, you will have a horrible paper.

In my research paper I am going to tell you about some characters that show us how they are in a love triangle. First, a thesis (or research paper in general) should not include 1st person. Also, you don't want to "tell" the reader what you are actually going to tell them. Finally, you need to list the characters (or the three topics) that you are going to explain in your paper.

A Midsummer night's dream is a good play, here is how magic messes up the relationships in this play.

This essay will concentrate, then, on ways in which Winterson confronts the linguistic problems of narrating a romance, starting with her admission that the entire subject of love has been verbalized so extensively and repeatedly that it is almost impossible to write anything new about the experience. Her subject is less love than the problems associated with describing it in narrative or textual form. I will show how Winterson, facing the unavoidable necessity of falling back on the cliched language of love, uses such language against itself.

"Written on the Body" is certainly not Shakesperean, and probably outside the scope of your class (an excellent book nonetheless!), but the phrase "uses such language against itself" announces this paper as so ruthlessly gobbledygook-y it could make a Soviet propagandist cry.

And let me just say, what a fun blog post! The "Chuck Norris" example from a student made me laugh so hard I almost spit out my coffee!
