Off topic, but on life

Well, I apologize that I am so slow in getting a new post up here. This was birthday weekend for my son. Big stuff and no time to update.

Normally I try to find class related topics, but since all of you are seniors, this is life-related instead.

I noticed that Beth Holloway Twitty is starting a national campaign regarding safe travel called Save Yourself (http://www.saveyourself.org/). This campaign kicks off at MBHS on February 28 at 7 PM. I encourage all of you to attend.

On that note, since many of you are traveling during Spring Break and Summer, do you have any tips to keep students safe while traveling?

Hmm, some tips for safe traveling. Well I guess all the basics are very important. First at the airport it is important to keep your baggage with you at all times, and go places in pairs. But I guess the biggest thing is when you are out having a good time always keep you drink with you and try to have a drink with some sort of top on it. Now days it is really easy and unfortunately fairly common for drugs to be slipped into drinks. Again when you are out in a place that you aren’t familiar with you should always have a buddy. In my opinion the buddy system is the best way to keep safe, you should always have an eye on your buddy and they on you.

Costa Rica is my spring break destination. All the people going are recommended to get a few shots as a precaution against Hepatitis and the different food we will be eating. We are also required to have another person with us wherever we go.

Just don't do anything stupid with people you don't know. You never know what they could be thinking of doing, and as we know, there can be serious consequences

I have done a lot of traveling due to my mother working for the airlines. A few tips to remember when traveling especially international
1. Camouflage yourself with the citizens try your best to not look like a tourist that includes wearing a camera around your neck
2. Always be aware of your surroundings
3. Don't travel with expensive jewelry or any other extravagant items that would make you a target for pick pocketers

umm well i guess you should always know where your friends are. Having someone to keep up with is a good idea. Also just be smart and aware of your surroundings.

Some good tips that I've used while traveling out of the country are to stay in groups, and be courteous. Also try avoiding getting sick. Jamaican emergency rooms are really scary...trust me! I'd also say to just be aware and realize that you're not in the United States. Don't forget to have fun though!

I think some of the best ways to avoid harm are to 1) Definately use the buddy system at all times; 2) Don't leave your drink and pick it back up; 3) Carry a cell phone or some form of communication in case of emergency; 4) Be careful of your surroundings (avoid alleyways and unlit places; and 5) Be aware of your surroundings. Having a good time isn't the core problem; the core problem is not being prepared in case of an emergency.

I think just be aware of your surroundings is important. If you are driving, be cautious to see if anyone has been following you. Also if you keep seeing the same people everywhere you go might be a sign of someone following you. Be cautious that anything can happen to anyone no matter where you are. We forget that all too often considering that we live in a safe neighborhood where nothing bad ever happens.

I am going to the beach for Spring Break. Stcking in big groups and not going off by yourself is a good safety tip. Be responsible and watch out for your friends and the people you are with. Do not leave a place you are until you know that youar leaving with everyone.

Well, a good tip for high school seniors going on trips this spring break would be to not get too wasted and pass out on the street. Because when you do that you are completely vulnerable and may be either taken advantage of or seriously injured. Have fun though. And NO, I don't know from experience.

Try not to lose your plane tickets and definantly have your passport ready with you at all times.

I would have to say the best tip i can give for going on a spring break trip is to not be stupid. Don't go into bad parts of the town and if you do, dont go alone. Also, always have a buddy near you because some people at popular spring break destinations are, what mountain brookies like to say, "sketch." There are weird people out there who hurt someone for absolutely no reason...so most of all, just be cautious of who your around and what you say.

I would say the best travel advice when it comes to safety is to stay in groups. Also it is very important to always know where you are because it is very easy to get lost while on vacation. Also if you go somewhere outside the country either know enough of the language to get around or bring someone who does.
