Facebook made public

Read the following regarding the arsonists accused of burning the churches.
The Crimson and White Online reported:

Cloyd's father, Michael, said in the affidavit that Russell Cloyd admitted knowing who committed the arsons and Cloyd was with the arsonists when they set the fires.

A message posted on Jan. 3 by Cloyd to Moseley on Facebook.com said that it was time to "reconvene the season of evil."

Near the end of the message there is a pledge that asks, among other things, "May our girlfriends be concerned about our safety, may our parents be clueless, [and] may our beers be frosty."

Give your opinion about the Facebook entry. Do you think this implicates them in the crime? Does it show that it was premeditated? What does this say about their attitudes toward the crime?

Is it right for businesses, government, or agencies to access your otherwise private Facebook account?

I think that the facbook posts definitely prove that the crimes were premeditated. I also think that it's not wrong for facebook accounts to be made public. They already are public because they are on the internet for anyone to look at. Those boys should have been smarter not to posts things like that on facebook and smarter not to do such a retarded thing.

Yes, the entries show that the crimes were premeditated. It was incredibly stupid of the guys to post something like that on their facebook. It shows that they did not feel like the crime was wrong and that they were looking forward to doing it again. I think when there is reason, businesses, goverment, or agencies definitely have to right to look at people's facebooks. It is a good way for frats and sororities to see what kind of person someone interested in them is. In the business world, however, this might not work as well because most older people do not have facebook.

I think this defiantly shows that the crimes were somewhat premeditated. On the issue of facebook, I think that when you make and account like that you know that it is going to bout there for basically anyone to see. Even if you aren’t friends with the person through facebook you can find someone who is. Personally I think that the police have every right to use facebook as a resource for information and evidence. But from a legal standpoint I don’t know it that would be violating any type of personal privacy rights. All in all though I think everyone should be careful about what they put on facebook because the reality is more and more people are looking at these accounts to get information for jobs, colleges etc and if there is information that you don’t want your future boss to see than you should probably not put it on there.

yes, I think this implicates that the crimes were premeditated. I dont think that it is wrong for facebook to be made public. They were stupid to think that it would remain private. If they were that dumb, they should be seriously punished.

I think that it shows that it could have been premeditated but it is still inconclusive as to what it is talking about. And I think that business's should be able to access it because it is the students who agree to have their information put on the internet, which is public.

unfortunately, yes to all of the above. I think it shows a premeditated process for a crime. I think they need a little more evidence or a confession to be sure, but it doesnt look good for those boys. I think it is legal for the government to look at facebook. It is just like you making a tv commercial or radio announcement. I guess they would have to prove that you really did it, or have an alibi (sp?). I dont know what to think about this case. I hope they tell everyone what in the world they were thinking!

i think that the government does have the right to read facebook walls because they are open to everyone. i think that it shows that the crimes were in fact premeditated, but i think it also shows that they just did it for fun. I guess this means that they are actually evil and stupid for posting that for everyone to see.

Yes, it definitely shows that these guys had premeditated these crimes, and that they truly enjoyed it. I think that the government should be able to intervine and see these posts if safety comes into the scene.

Yes, i do think that the facebook messages have a lot to do with the case. I think that they are stupid and should have gotten caught. That is just stupid to put it on Facebook.

I dont think that the person who wrote that message felt to guilty about burning down a church. If he really meant what he wrote, he deserves to be punished becuase it seems he feels no remorse for his actions. How could you joke about your beers being frosty after you have burnt down a house of God. Quite unbelievable if he really was a christian, no?
